Slackers

We have been slacking in the scripture reading department lately. Life is SO crazy that sometimes I don't make time for personal scripture study and I don't read them to my kids. Why do I let something so important go undone? I believe in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I know that the scriptures are true. I want my kids to read them and love them and have strong testimonies. So as a family we discussed the importance of reading the scriptures and we are all determined and committed to daily scripture study. We have a scripture wall and we each get a sticker including Steve and I when we read our scriptures. For the kids I'll read to them from Book of Mormon Stories and then we will read one verse from the scriptures, a scripture mastery verse. I am excited to get back on track. I am excited about receiving the blessings that will come to our family through scripture study. I am excited to teach my children the gospel. They have special spirits and strong spirits and I know if I prepare them they will accomplish great things!

I love this quote, "I fear that many of us rush about from day to day taking for granted the holy scriptures. We scramble to honor appointments with physicians, lawyers, & businessmen. Yet we think nothing of postponing interviews with deity-postponing scripture study. Little wonder we develop anemic souls & lose our direction in living. How much better it would be if we planned and held sacred fifteen or twenty minutes a day for reading the scriptures. Such interviews with deity would help us recognize his voice & enable us to receive guidance in all of our affairs. We must look to God through the scriptures." ~Carlos E. Asay.

  1. Wow, I just posted about the same idea - how I've let things go. Thank you for your post because it is encouraging me to step up my game!

  2. I have recently had the same realization Gina! We bought Ezra a tiny BOM at the distribution center and read a verse each night. I say a few words, and he repeats them. The cutest part is that he then "reads" and I have to repeat what he says. Good job you, and I LOVE the quote!
